Elena Subach

Olena Subach (b. 1980) — visual artist and curator. She obtained a university degree in Economics, but now works as a researcher at Lviv National Art Gallery, Ukraine. Subach comes to photography in 2012, living in Lviv and joining the 5x5/Dzyga art community. She is a Member of the ‘Ukrainian Photographic Alternative’. Her photos were published in Gup magazine, British Journal of Photography, SZ Magazine, C41, It’s Nice That, Lensculture, Calvert Journal, Der Greif, Bird in Flight, Sandvich Magazine, Knock Magazine. Her works were exhibited in Great Britain, Netherlands, Germany, France, Poland, Georgia, and Ukraine. Special prize winner of Bird in Flight competition ‘New East Photo Prize 2016’ and Grand Prix Gomma grant 2019, Future Talents 2019 nominee, Poland’s Ministry of Culture program ‘Gaude Polonia 2019’ scholarship holder. The main topics in her artistic practices are life in the province, religion, the connection between mythology and identity, her private relations with the world and her own country, with life and death. She looks for unique people, communities, and places.
